Tomcat story
How it all began.
Tomcat began in Gloucestershire in 1997 with a simple question: why isn’t cycling easier for more people? Mechanical engineer Bob Griffin set out to design a trike that delivered the stability and comfort riders needed, without ever feeling heavy or complicated.
His early innovations — unique steering systems, adjustable seating, and clever quick-release mechanisms — didn’t just solve problems; they reshaped the possibilities of three-wheel cycling. Word spread quickly, and Tomcat became known for engineering solutions that were practical, elegant and genuinely transformative for families, schools and cycling centres across the UK.
These same principles now underpin the adult trike range: thoughtful design, British craftsmanship and a relentless commitment to making cycling enjoyable, accessible and confidence-boosting for riders of all ages.
Engineering at the heart.
Engineering is in our DNA. Every Tomcat trike — from manual models to electric-assist systems — is built around stability, balance, rider ergonomics and ease of transport.
Our iconic innovations include:
These advancements, originally created for the children’s market, have now been refined and replicated for adults, resulting in an exceptionally stable and comfortable riding experience — without adding unnecessary weight or complexity.
The evolution into adult cycling
As parents, carers, and professionals began asking for Tomcat-quality trikes for adults, we recognised a growing need: riders wanted the same stability, comfort and engineering excellence we had become known for, but tailored to adult bodies, lifestyles and ambitions.
The result was a natural evolution into the adult trike market — now one of Tomcat’s fastest-growing sectors.
Whether rediscovering cycling after years away or choosing a trike for everyday freedom, riders trust Tomcat for its stability, reliability and comfort-first approach.
A company built around people.
For us, cycling has always been about freedom, wellbeing, connection and joy. Tomcat is still a small company at heart — one that listens to riders, understands their needs, and designs products that genuinely enhance their lives.
Every trike is hand-built in Gloucestershire by a team committed to quality and craftsmanship. Every new model begins with a real conversation with real riders. Every innovation is guided by the belief that cycling should feel good — no matter your age or ability level.
